Welcome 2.0

Welcome to my blog 2.0.  My blog 1.0 was not the most successful venture as I managed to only post twice and then quickly lost interest.  Will I be more successful this time? Only time will tell.

So what does the title of this blog, Social2Learn, mean?  It has many meanings.  On one level it means that I want to contribute back what I have been able to learn and achieve because of so many other people’s contributions to the web of connected knowledge.  On another level, it signifies my interest in how social media can support learning.  Specifically, how it can support learning and organizational development in the corporate environment.

Ultimately, it is an acknowledgment that traditional instructional design techniques are missing an important aspect of how we learn.  This aspect is not new, nor is it unfamiliar in many academic fields. That aspect can be summarized as the social in social2learn.  In its earliest forms it has been called Socratic or dialectic method.  Web 2.0 citizens may be more familiar with the label the “conversation”.  Regardless of its label, the social element is core to learning as a human being and ultimately to learning to be a human being.
